Sometimes, when you are building a new AR platform, you don’t want the barrel to be too lightweight, but you don’t want it to be too heavy either. Sometimes, you just need it to ride that line between light and heavy. The Medium Profile barrel is your solution. The ODIN Works 10.5 416R Stainless Steel Medium profile barrel comes with the well-known .223 Wylde chamber, so you can feed it a diet of both .223 and 5.56 NATO ammo. It has a carbine length gas system, M4 feed ramps for reliability, a 1:8 twist rate with button-cut rifling (1:8 twist means the bullet makes one full rotation every 8 inches while inside the barrel), 1/2×28 thread pattern to fit standard AR-15 muzzle devices, and a medium profile barrel. Generally a lightweight barrel is about .625 diameter in the middle, whereas the medium profile barrel is .750 diameter in the middle… giving the medium profile barrel about .125 more thickness. This hand-lapped barrel weighs in at just 1.23 pounds and comes with an adjustable Stainless Steel Gas Block that allows you to tune your AR for various types of shooting.

NOTE: The .223 Wylde is a mix of the 5.56×45 NATO external chamber measurements and lead angle, but also utilizes the tighter .224 free bore diameter of the .223 Remington cartridge for better accuracy potential. As we all know, you could not fire 556 NATO ammo in a .223 Rem chamber due to the pressure differential and slight chamber size differences. The .223 Wylde solves this issue and gives the shooter the best of both worlds.

NOTE: 416R is a Crucible brand steel and it was formulated specifically for barrels. Most types of steel, including normal 416SS are not designed to be used in freezing temperatures. But this steel was designed to operate in arctic temperatures, up to -40F. 416R also has greater accuracy potential than normal 416SS and 4150 steel due to its ability to take highly defined rifling and machining cuts. 416R Stainless steel has a 12-14% Chromium content. Generally any steel with 13% or better Chromium is considered Stainless, so 416R could be considered non-stainless depending upon batch. Corrosion is possible with almost any steel, stainless or otherwise, just be sure to take good care of your barrel.
