The Dirty Bird RECCE V2 Upper Assembly is the latest evolution of our popular 16″ SMRS Upper Assembly. This upper is built to withstand extreme hard use while maintaining exceptional performance and accuracy.

What is the purpose of a RECCE rifle?

The base role for the Recce was/is to give eyes-on-target Sniper-Observer teams the ability to get close while providing a more capable/longer 5.56 reach and an emergency assault and/or break contact capability. – Summation given by a former SEAL

The Barrel the Ballistic Advantage 16 .223 Wylde SPR Fluted Midlength Stainless Steel Premium Series Barrel. The barrel sports a SPR profile with aggressive fluting. This reduces weight, improves maneuverability, and enhances heat dispersion, all while maintaining rigidity. The domestically sourced 416R Stainless Steel is button-rifled with a 1-8 twist, which is known for it’s ability to properly stabilize a wide variety of bullet weights.

Why 16″ instead of 18″? Kyle Defoor says it best:

[Compared to an Mk-12] Most of us that have a lot of time on one (myself included) think that 16″ is better for a number of reasons;
1. 2″ does make a difference, especially with a can.
2. weight (it’s not pounds at this stage it’s ounces) and remember that balance has a factor here too.
3. I’ve shot both together on the same range at the same time. I don’t really care what charts and scientists say, me and mine can hit just as good with 16″ as 18″.

Speaking of suppressors, the Dirty Bird RECCE V2 comes equipped with a Surefire SF3P-556-1/2-28 three-prong flash hider or Surefire Warcomp which also serves as a rock-solid mounting adapter for SureFire SOCOM Series 5.56 Fast-Attach® suppressors.

The upper is built on a top-tier 7075 forged upper receiver, and fitted with a Dirty Bird SMRS V2 Handguard. Key features of this handguard include:

• Patented ASAL (Anti-Slip, Anti-Lift) mounting system
• Included M-LOK QD Mount
• “Competition Cut” top rail with M-LOK slots machined into the shaved portion.

The Dirty Bird Enhanced Bolt Carrier Group is designed for use with 5.56 and .223 ammunition. The Enhanced BCG features strategically relocated load bearing surfaces reduce carrier tilt/can’t during recoil, thus increasing reliability and longevity. Additional wall thickness in the gas exhaust port area provides added strength and rigidity. Our enhanced BCG’s are HPT and MPI Tested.

To top it all off, we added a Radian Raptor-LT Ambidextrous charging handle to provide a lightweight and practical upgrade over a Mil-Spec charging handle.
